Raising Chiken in up roof

In My father house space was limited. Today the house of father still small. It is so dofifcult ti find the large space due the price of land and property so high. It is also unreasonable price. Off course, in my country, people like raiseing chicken. I also raise few chicken in my house.

I put the chciken in roof. You can see my pen in second florr of my father house. I put the pen in the front of seconf floor. the second florr is not ideal because the sun. the roof is so heat and it is not good for the chciken. they feel hot in the roof. The space also limited.

I decide to stop raise the chciken for a while. Since the neaigbor cut jambu tree beside my tree. You can see the map at picture in this post. I sell the red breasted black ayam pelung to other neighbor. I am so sad. Ia also shuld go to other city for lecture.

As long you can provide a good shelter for chicken, you can rasie the chicken uprrof. You can palce the tree that can cover the chicken from heat. My country is a tropical country which sun shine everyday. The tree also help to protect the chciken from wind.

Therefore , you need to modify th epen of the chciken.  place the chciken at the comfort palce. Some pen have try that can collect the chciken manure. You can easily celan the chciken.

I though it ise not difficult to raise chiken in roof as long you have enough spcae. I have jeard the pakistani peole raise cattle at the roof.  It must be amazing. Rasing a cattle in my house is very imposible. My neghbor will angry at me and some police will arrest me for it.

A Reflection on a Mistake: My Aggressive Hen

 

I once raised a hen that showed unexpected aggression. The hen black bettle color and also tall. At first, I didn’t realize the seriousness of her behavior. But soon, she began kicking the roosters — one of them even suffered an eye injury. I was shocked. Later, she also hurt her own chick. That was when I realized something was deeply wrong.

 

Looking back, I now understand that the problem started with my own mistake. I had placed the hen in a narrow cage, which likely made her feel stressed or territorial. That tight space may have triggered her aggression. I did not the size exatcly for the hen but the other chicken was comfort use the pen. I regret not noticing the warning signs earlier. I should have trimmed her nails or separated her sooner to avoid injuries.

 

I also suspect that the hen came from a village where chickens are allowed to roam freely. In those settings, hens may be less aggressive because they have more space and freedom. In contrast, keeping her confined likely increased her stress and caused this behavior.

 

For a moment, I considered “de-toeing” — removing the claws — but I soon realized it would be cruel. Besides, I didn’t have the proper tools, nor the antiseptic to avoid infection or tetanus. The practice of “de-toeing” is common in commercial chciken farm.

 

In the end, I made the difficult decision to replace the hen with another. Eventually, I put the aggressive hen down, not out of anger, but out of responsibility. It was not a pleasant experience, but I learned something important: as an animal owner, we must provide a proper environment and always observe early signs of stress or danger.

This experience taught me to be more careful, more thoughtful, and more responsible in caring for animals. Mistakes can hurt — not just ourselves, but also the creatures under our care.

Rumpless or tailless chicken

Chicken without tail feather must be weird chicken. This chicken unique due to the chicken has no tail. Do not generalize the chicken with short tail. The rumpless really has no tail. 

The rumpless phenomenal could happen because the genetical mutation that change the performance of the chicken. Without a tail, the chicken is not complete. The function of the tail is a brake when it fly. Some domestic chicken has flying ability and the tail function could help the chicken to stop in certain distance. 

The rumpless may not attract most chicken lovet. Do the lack of tails. Tha absence of its tail reduce the performance of the chicken. Some chickenbhas beautiful long tail that is very expensive. However, few chicken lover must like the chicken. 

The rumpless could occur in any chicken breed . I do not believe the rumpless occur in jungle fowl because it must be difficult for the chicken live without tail in jungle. They have to fly at the jungle. 

The most chicken breed that has so many rumpless is Araucana. The Aracauna that lays green egg show the tall least .

Do it worry the rumpless is recessive genetics. You must difficult to find this bird. You can get the rumpless only when you mate the rumpless chicken or two chicken that has rumpless genetics.

Raise Chicken in landfill

 i took the photo at the landfill, where there is a lot waste and rubiish on there. this place is a transift before any rubbish dump in final place. there are so many plastic that you can see at the photo. you must be difficult to find any chicken in this photo. 

It is common prcatice in underdeveloped country to raise chicken or cattle in landfill. it is cheaper than raise chicken in the flock. 

There are some risk raise chicken in the landfil such as: 

1. disease transmition. the landfill is full of disease. the chicken eat the rubbish may bring some danger diseases such as salmonellea and avian flu

2.the lack of nutrition . rubbish is bad food and lack of nutirion. 

3. i believe there is such toxic in landfill. the pestiside can kill the chciken. 

4. the chicken also spread the waste. they use the feed to find but it spread the waste 

5. Either the Meat and the egg is not health. what chicken eat influence the meat and egg quality. 

how to give sign to your free range chicken

In my country people raise the chicken in fre range. In urban city such as Jakarta people still raise the chicken in free range.  Actually, the capital government has forbid raise chicken since the avian influence came. The citizen should slaughter that chicken ithey can send to the capital government. There is no other rule that retreat the law so the status still forbidden, meaning Jakarta citizen is not allowed raise chicken 

However people still raise chicken.  sometimes the chicken change. We are difficult to identify our chicken . Certainly, the other people also difficult to identify the chicken . That is why the people should sign the chicken. Off course , you do not have to use hot iron to. Make sign. On your chicken . My mother just cut its tail to make our chicken different to other. Off course in a month the chicken rail recover back. This way is not effective or what my mother donde was not effective. 

Some people tied the wong with factory. It does not harmful for chicken. The factory make the chicken different to other. The owner can claim. The chicken. This way is not hindered percent effective but it decrease the probability the chicken changed with other chicken. We can recognize the chicken from other people chicken. 

The chicken that is reiase in free range is not expensive but cheap. You can but it by providing $ 10 only. So this chicken just for table chicken only. Do not ask the hygiene of the chicken. They live in fre range that is contain of rubbish. We do not know any rubbish at the rubbish place. 

For the show chicken or game chicken, the owner would not release the chicken in free range. They take the chicken carefully. They provide limited range and always guard the chicken.

 

Five Chicken that has unique and beautiful crow

 I am proud after hearing Indonesia has most expensive chicken ayam cemani. I am also proud that my country has so many chicken breed. Unfortunately, the chicken breed is not registered in American Poultry Association. The outside does not recognize some chicken breed from my country that is very special. To me those chicken breed has special crow.

There are some show to get the winner . The winner is the best performance song. The winner price is going to rise multiply times than others common chicken. It also more expensive than Ayam Cemani. I heard the contest winner will get some trophy too. Here there are

1 Ayam Pelung

This chicken is The biggest chicken in Indonesia

They have long and loud crow. The crow flow like the air stream. The onward put the cage in high place. They have some addition so the chicken crow can hear for hundreds meters. This chicken. Color is black, brown black tail, black breasted red with dark black feet and dark khaki feet.

The chicken come from Cianjur, the city of delicious rice producer. The Chicken spread to around Cianjur such as Bogor, Sukabumi, and Jakarta.

This chicken is the biggest chicken in Indonesia. They have a long and loud crow that flows like the air stream. The owners place the cage in high locations, and there are additions so the chicken's crow can be heard for hundreds of meters. The chicken's color is black, brown-black tail, black-breasted red with dark black feet, and dark khaki feet. The chicken originates from Cianjur, the city known for producing delicious rice. It has spread to areas around Cianjur, such as Bogor, Sukabumi, and Jakarta.

2. Ayam Bekisar

This chicken is green jungle fowl descent. The breeder crosses the green jungle fowl to the local or native chicken that is called ayam kampung. The bekisar has neck feather like it's father. The neck feather color is black bettle shine green and purple. The female color is dull and not interesting.

The crow is short beautiful shriek. Though the crow is short but people like the shriek. I also like the chicken usually the feather.

3. Ayam Burgo

This is a hybrid chicken too. The father ai red jungle fowl. This hybrid is almost similar to local chicken. The crow is beautiful too. Most Ayam Burgo color is red breasted red like it's father. The performance is not special to me but the people happy to raise the chicken because the crow.

4. Ayam Yungkilok

This chicken is from West Sumatra. They have a long crow and multiple stages, with longer ones being more expensive. There are various variations of Ayam Yungkilok.

5. Ayam Ketawa

The chicken comes from Southern Sulawesi. They have a crow that is similar to people laughing. The most common color is black breasted red, white, white with some red color in the wing.  

why I prefer chicken than roster or hen?

Most the exhibit chicken or show chicken is expensive than ordinary chicken because it is limited. Serama is far expensive than common chicken such as ayam kampung, broiler, Rhode Island Red and so on. That is why I bought the chicken. 

I care Pelung Chicken and it is success unfortunately, I raise two big Pelung Roster. One plumage is white completely and one is wheat is color. I was disappointed because either the white or the wheat are not pure breed. I am pretty sure the chicken is Pelung - Broiler Cross. Some bad breeder crosses Pelung with other chicken to gain more profit. I do not care about it because I just want rise any chicken. 

The chicken is cheaper than roster or hen. The price is only quarter or ten percent of roster or hen. I can save some money. I have to watch the growing of the chicken. To me it is a miracles. Yhe roster also close with me because theu recognize me.

The also adorable to our house. To me it is more profitable to raise the small chicken thanbtge big 

I also have intention to sell the bigger . There are some business to raise the chicken. 

Yokohama Chicken : Longtail chicken From German

 The Yokohama is A showing chicekn from german. This unique chicen has long tails feather . Although, this chicken tail is not long as Onagodori but the chicken is also nice.

The  bird has brought from Japan in Nineteen century. The German breeder breed the Japanese and produce Yokohama. The great great grand parent of the chicken from Japan. The Yokohama name gets from the port where the chicken exported. In my opinion. This chicken also Have relation to Onagodori chicken.

It Will good for your backyard. Due its slim body. This chicken os appropriate for the showing chicekn. It is also available in bantam version, which is shorter than the common.

The color chicken is white and red saddle white. The red saddle has red color wing. Today some variation color is available such as black tail buff, blue red, spangled, golden duckwing and silver duckwing. The skin, beak and feet color are yellow. We cannot find any feather in this leg.  

The bird could lay 90 eggs a year which size is 60 gram each egg. The color of egg is tinted. While, the bantam lays smaller eggs , which is only 40 gram. The bantam also

Five Toes Chicken

How many the chicken toes? We must answer four. The chicken contain four toes that three in front and one at the back. Those toes are useful to find the food at the soil.    Many years ago, I have ever seen some chicken has five toes that is different to common chicken. My neighbor who also the chicken trades has at least five roosters which have five toes. The chicken is a landrace chicken which is also the Red Jungle Fowl Gallus Gallus descendant and the Rhode Island.

The chicken is not similar to ancestor because the red and the Rhode has four toes only. Perhaps the mutation occurs in the chicken. However, some chicken class has five toes such as :

1. Silky Chicken

The beautiful soft plumage chicken comes from Chinese. The chicken color is white, black, and partridge. Some breeders also produce the grey and blue variant. The Chicken has five toes. Some chicken has feathered shanks, but some others are not. 

2. Feverolles

The chicken is so large. Beside its beard, the chicken also has five toes. The chicken is big like Rhode Island redthat is raise for its meats or eggs

3. Dorking

The chicken from Britain but it is developed at German. The Dorking color is grey, silver, white and others. The chicken has five toes and it is a good meat producer.

4. Houdan

This is a uniquely chicken from French that is descendant so much chicken such as Dorking, Silky and Polish. The chicken has backward flowing crest up front its head. The size chicken is mid size. They have five toes like its ancestors silky and Dorking. The bird is raised as a show bird. 

5. Sultans

The chicken comes from Turkey that has five toes. The chicken has crest like the Poland Chicken. It

Brahma Chicken for Pet

Brahma is a large chicken class that is rising for its meat or eggs. Most breeders use it for its large meat. I believe that the chicken from India. It  has been widespread to world. The chicken weighs 5.5 kilogram and the feather is so thick becuase the chicken comes from the subtropical chicken. The feather almost covers all body including the shanks.

In my opinion, the chicken is not good as pet because it is not simple. The feather or plumage is not beautiful too the Brahma is not different to Rhode Island Red, Wyandotte, Langshan, and others. The variation color of the chicken is just white, buff, birchen, black, dark and others.  

You need large coops to raise the chicken and also high. You also need more chicken feed for the Brahma too due it’s has large size. I do not see a good reason to raise the chicken for the pet. The chicken voice is just same with other chicken.

In US and United Kingdom, the birds are not competed as the show Bird. Perhaps there is some competition fro the Brahma but as the utility chicken.

I my country, people sales the chicken as the pets because it is unique. The Brahma is rare in my country. Perhaps people raise the chicken because it’s rarely and uniquely.

I think ever people has right to raise any chicken as the pet. The chicken is tame and it is good for pet. They can stand with cold or hot weather.

I saw some chicken eat chicken bone

I saw some three month age chicken eat the chicken bone. chicken is omnivore which means they can eat both meat and vegetable. They can eat insect, worm, mite, and they can eat grass, paddy, wheat,flour and so on. I am worried the chicken will gonna mad after eat chicken bone. I hear the mad cow disease occur because the cow eat the meat cow. Supposedly the chicken owner house the chicken so they will not eat the chicken bone. The chicken bone must be bad for the chicken. Good forager chicken for your backyard

Naturally, a chicken loves grass and weed. The ancestor, red jungle fowl also loves he grass and weeds. They can control the grass or weed population. Some people consider to raise the chicken because its ability to control grass or weed population.
Placing some flock chicken is cheaper than ordering other people to cut the grass or weed.  The chicken also can drop organic fertile manure that is better than chemical. For your information, chicken manure is better than other animal manure because its consist more nitrogen.  You do not have to buy the chemical fertilizer that can pollute the soil.
Some people are disappointed after placing a flock of chicken. The chicken does not eat any grass. They just bite and throw it. The owner thinks every chicken like grass or weed. In reality, some chicken do not like grass or weed. I have ever raised Bangkok Chicken that does not like grass and weed. They just like paddy or pellet. I have also raised barred Plymouth Rock that does no like vegetable.
Only some chicken loves grass and weed. If you want to raise chicken for good forager, you need to buy the right chicken. Ask the seller which chicken breed that is good as good forager. For example, Buckeye is one of he good forager. It is also large class chicken from America that can provide white meat and fresh eggs. Beside buckeye you can consider Holland, Dominique, Java, Weisumer, Minorca, Blue Andalusian, Dorking and others. The chicken that comes from your yard must be safer than the chicken from farm because the food is grass or grain. You will not use the medicine or vaccine for he chicken too.
You should always remember that chicken also like your plant beside grass and weeds. The chicken may eat your lovely flower too. You have better not to raise chicken if you plant some nice flower at your backyard.
The alternative of the chicken is goose. Goose is a good forager too. They prefer to eat grass rather than grain or poultry feed.  The goose can shout loudly when a stranger approaches them.

Chicken WInter Care

It is not easy to raise chicken in a subtropical region where winter occurs. In winter, the flock owner should spend more money for electric because they should turn on the light all day. On the other hand, the revenue of flock owner will decrease because the chicken stops to production in winter. Some chicken breed cannot lay in winter such as Asian Chicken and Mediterranean Chicken. Therefore, you should select the breed that has egg-laying ability in winter such as Rhode Island Red, New Hampshire Red and other.

It is because they may suffer from cold. The cold weather also causes the frostbite in chicken. The frostbite often attack the chicken whose has wide single comb.

A hen can lay when it feel comfort and has enough food. The flock owner should do like this to keep the chicken warm. To raise the chicken in winter, you can do like this:

1. Place the additional heater lamp during winter. The lamp can make the cage warmer. The heat of lamp depends on the weather and the coop. Some articles suggest 75 Watt lamp for the cage. I think it is not absolute. You can observe the chicken with the lamp. If the chicken far from the lamp, it means the lamp is too hot. If, on the other hand, the chicken close from the lamp, it means the lamp is not hot enough.

2. Put the warm water inside the cage. Do not let the water frozen because the chicken cannot drink it. Alternatively, you can change the water often. Water is essential for chicken especially layer egg. They need sufficient water to keep laying.

3. In an attempt to produce eggs, you can increase the chicken appetite by pouring water to the feed. The feed is easy to eat.

4. Design the coop for winter that can reduce cold.

5. The ventilation and air circulation inside the cage should be good. It helps chicken to get fresh water and decrease the humidity. Some flock owner think that closing the ventilation can make the chicken warm. They are wrong. The closed cage can caused diseases such as lung disease.

6. Remove the chicken coop to warehouse or chicken house. They will be comfort inside a building.

7. Add the chicken hay bedding. The hay can control the manure stinky. Change the hay when it dirty. You can use the hay and manure as fertilizer too.

Famous Spanish Chicken

In Spanish, they have domesticated Mediterranean class chicken. There are dozen domesticated Spanish chicken. In this post I just explain five kind of Spanish chicken such as Minorca, Blue Andalusian, White Faced Black Spanish, Catalan and Castilians.
Mediterranean class is different from American class, the Mediterranean has slim body. It is lighter than American class but it is heavier than Italian class. The shank and the feet is clean and there is no feather. They have four toes (three in front and one in back). Most chicken has red blood single comb with double witted. The earlobes are white chalk color. They lay white eggs like other Mediterranean class. The feather is closely related.

1. Minorca
Minorca is the heaviest chicken breed. The cock weighs 9 pounds; while, the hen is 7 pounds. This chicken is big as Rhode Island Red. It is Black in color or dark blue. There are also variety colors such as buff and white. It is good for meat and eggs too. Its egg is white in color.

2. Andalusians or Blue Andalusians
As its guest name the chicken origin is Andalusíans in Spain. The hen can lay up to 160 eggs a year so it is good enough for chicken layer too. The blue Andalusíans have been recognized by American Poultry Association.

3. Catalana
Catalana is a Mediterranean Chicken breed from Catalonia. The color is Buff golden. It is dual purpose chicken so you can raise it for its meat or eggs.

4. Castlians
It is also called Moor chicken because The North African Muslim Moor introduced the chicken for the first time. It origin may North African. This breed has not been recognized as a breed. It is white and black in color. Castilians is the ancestor of Minorca.

5. White-Faced Black Spanish
It is black color. The face is white like a clown that is why people call it as clown chicken. It has been recognized by American Poultry Association. The performance is almost similar with Minorca. The cock weighs 6-7 pounds. The hen can lay 150-180 eggs in a year.

Poultry Industry: Make The chicken Suffer?

Most people love chicken because it is delicious. The meat is soft and so juicy. With special spicy, the fried chicken becomes the delicious food. Some franchise restaurant has own fried chicken recipes.

Have you ever thought where the restaurant gets the chicken? The chicken comes from some poultry farm near the restaurant.

The farm raises the chicken from daily old chicken to mature chicken in 60 days. The chicken could reach more than two kilogram after two months care. In my country, the farmer harvest younger chicken or forty days old age chicken. Sometimes the farmer harvests it only 30 days. In my country, people do not like heavy chicken that weighs more than two kilograms.

The life of broiler chicken is so short. Some farm also use hazardous chemical like growth hormone to grow the chicken fast. They also forced the chicken eat more so the chicken body becomes larger. The broiler chicken does not have chance to breed.

They are borne from various chicken breed at a breeder farm. The breeder hatches the eggs with large incubator box for 21 days. The broiler chicks do not recognize the mother moreover the father. The breeder put the chicks at cartoon and pick out to the farm.

If the order or chicken demand is low, the breeder often deletes the chicks. In my country, the breeder burned the chicks. I think it is very pity. The police arrested the breeder that had burn the chicks. The breeder does not want the chick price go down so they delete it. Supposedly, they hatch few eggs when the low demand. Some breeder prefers to convert the chicken to chick flour. They mix the flour with other chicken feed.

The farm acts chicken like a machine. In my country broiler destiny is far worse than United States broiler. The farmer transports the chicken with narrow bamboo cage. Sometimes the chicken is heat or get rainy. Some chicken are killed during the transportation from the farm to whole sales. The wholesales sell the chicken to the retail. The retail tied 5-10 chicken in a bunch and hang at motorcycles. It just needs around 30 minutes to the retail but the chicken must be suffered.

The layer chicken must be suffered. They live at narrow cage so they can produce more eggs. They cannot hop and run like chicken at a backyard. The fat must be abundant at the body.

The good layers usually produce 250 eggs a day. If a chicken cannot produce as much as the farmer expected, the chicken would be slaughter or sell. It is loss to raise the chicken while, the farmer still feed with expensive chicken feed.

After two or two half years, the layer chicken production decreases. The farmer should sell the chicken or slaughter the chicken.

Chicken was born to provide meat and eggs for human being. However, the human should be wise to chicken. They should notice the chicken welfare and respect the chicken right.

Roosters take care of chicken

Naturally, the hen raise the chick until they independent. In some case, a rooster often take care of chicken. It lead the chicken to find the food at the yard. Few weeks ago, I had seen the roster raise 5-6 little chicken. He teach the chick to find the food on yard.
I do not know whether the rooster warm the chicks. I do not saw the chicken cage. I think the chicken will not want to close the roosters.
I saw the rooster often bullying the chicken. He beat the back head of the chick. Perhaps, the rooster want to punish the little chicken.

How to care baby chicken

 Some hen cannot raise the chick. I do not why. Perhaps the hen is bad mother. If the hen ignore the chick you should raise the chick.

Some breeder prefer to care the chick so the hen can lay again. They want increase the production of eggs and more chicks.

1. Provide a brooder for some chicken. The brooder, which measure about three feet by three feet ( 1 m by 1m), are occupied by 10 chicks. Put the old newspaper below the cage that is important to keep the cage clean. Replace the paper once daily.  Alternatively. you can use wood choop as litter.

If you have not brooder you can use cardboard box.

2. The baby chick need heat because its silkie feather cannot cover the body. Use light for warm the chicken. There are some light that keep the chick warm beside this article. They need 24 hours light for one week. You can reduce the hours after one week.

3. Feed the chicken with statrter fowl feed. You can buy it at polutry shop or pet shop.Put the water silo inside the brooder. Clean the chick feeder and water silo.

4. Vaccine the chick such as avian flu vaccine and ND vaccine. If you live in American, you do not need avian flu vaccine.

5. Control the brooder frequently. Help the chick if you find a trouble.

Notice:

The location of brooder is safe from predator and bad weather.

Do not let the feed wed because it can cause disease

You can change the light if the chicken does not comfort.  The sign of chicken does not comfort with the lamp is that they avoid the lamp or the chicken gain near the lamp.

After the four week or the chicken become bigger, Remove the chicken to pen or coop

Mutation in chicken produce some unique chicken

Gallus gallus bankiva or red jungle fowl is the ancestor of most domesticated chicken in the world. Have been domesticated by people, some chicken psychic is changed. A domesticated chicken cannot fly as the ancestor does. The domesticated chicken has different feather, weight, toes and comb. The gene might change by human threat.

Some people care it because the mutation is very unique. The mutation of chicken are:

Crested head

Some domesticated chicken also has crested behind the comb. The crested is not beautiful.

Frizzle or Curly feather

Like human, some chicken has curl feather. The feather cannot cover the chicken skin. It generates to descendant too. Some people think the chicken goes to bridal and salon.

Silky feather

A common hen sometimes has silky feather chick. It is a mutation too. Some norm chicken has silky hair like Chinese silky bantam. The tail feather is not perfect and short.

Bantam or dwarf

Dwarf is the shorter chicken than the parent. It could happen because the egg is small or the child suffer a disease. In Malaysia, Breeder cross breed some bantam to get smaller chicken. They also limit the diet so the chicken become shorter.

Five toes

A normal chicken has four toes. Some chicken also has five toes: four in front and one in back although the parent has four toes.

Sharp feather

Sussex Chicken : The Oldest dual-purpose chicken in England

As where it’s get name, Sussex chicken comes from Sussex, England. This chicken is believed as the first chicken breed in England. The chicken is a popular chicken breed in the world.

They have at least eight color variations such as, Brown, white, speckled, buff, light, red, silver, and coronation. The coronation color is the latest color of the Sussex; while, the white is the most rare Sussex.
