Egyptian Pigeon Tower: Raise thousand pigeon in high building

 I have read a book about pigeon tower in Bahasa Indonesia. The Book content is about how to build a tower pigeon. I believe today there is no pigeon tower in my country Indonesia because the region is not appropriate with the tower. Building it needs so much mud and bricks to build it. 

I wonder how to feed so many pigeons there? it must be bothered. you need abundant pigeon grain to fulfill their need. how many times feed them. An article said that it just need once or two times a day. Well, lack or insufficient feed makes the bird run from the loft or tower. Pigeon is a pragmatism bird. they will find any owner that so kind ti them.

I also wonder how to clean it. It is need so many people to clean the huge tower that contain so many pigeon. I also wonder how the owner harvest the squab. Are they catch the old pigeon or the younger one? The pigeon meat is delicious and it is the good cuisine in Egypt. 

I am afraid use the tower make you lose. In other word, you have to provide money for the tower. You need some worker to manage the tower and the revenue is not equivalent to the cost.

The manouvre of roller pigeon.

The roller is not popular in my country. the pigeon lover loves high flyer pigeon. As the pigeon fly high . The pigeon better. There are some contesst of high fly but I am curious that the contest is connected to gambling. The pigeon that first come to the target and fly high is the winner. The price reach $10,000, compared to common the high flying that is only $10. 

Back to roller. Only few people that raise the pigeon. The roller is imported from outside. We do not recognize the roller in my country. I just saw the bird from television or YouTube that the bird can roll and roll back either in air or in the land. The parlor roller is a pigeon breed that can tumbling either in air or in the ground. But they like to tumb on the ground. Meanwhile the Birmingham roller only show back roll manouvre in air only. 

The roller is an adaptation behaviour of the bird to evade from the Buzzard Attack. The Buzzard has high speed and easily caught the pigeon with is speed. Therefore the roller can manouvre to evade from the Buzzard Claw. 

This adaptation does not appear in Pigeon in our country. Perhaps the Buzzard is different in my country. The pigeon also not need to hide from a buzzard. 

There is contest in roller pigeon. The owner whistling the bird and the pigeons start rolling in sky. What a beautiful movement. I amazed the bird can understand the order of its boss.

This bird is not different to rock dove. The bird has short face that is sometimes called shirt face tumbler. The beaks is so short. I think the short face is adaptable psychical of the bird. We can say only the short face that has ability roll. 

I was so wrong . The roller is not adaptable way to evade from Buzzard. The roller movement may make the Buzzard disorient but the pigeon also suffer disorient that may get caught by the Buzzard. This bird are dedicated for hobbyist only that is why you should careful to raise the bird especially your house have so many pigeon's enemy. 

Merpati Sungut : A Rare Pigeon from East Java Indonesia

Unlike United States, Britain or other developed countries, Indonesia has no pigeon standard bird including pigeon. Ini my country, there is no standard bird that determine the variety of bird. Most people just recognize common pigeon or Columba Livia. 

Actually, the are some special breed fronmy country. One of them is Merpati Sungui. This pigeon is rare . The color is black. They have ability flying at night. 

It is also a high flyer and the legend of the high flyer. The bird is also fast flyer. 

The neck is look strong and big. The bird os shorter than other rock dove. The beak is short. It is not short as tumbler pigeon . 

This pigeon is more expensive than common pigeon. The proce is around twenty times common pigeon.

One of descent of rock pigeon or Columba Livia also lives in Egypt. The performance is little bit different to the ancestors. It has small beak like half beak or pouter pigeon or the short beak. The bird also has long wing and tail feather.

The color of the bird is beautiful. It is swift in color as guess its name. The feet are short and have no plumage or we call it featherless shank.

People raise the bird as fancy pigeon. The bird can be trained as the homing pigeon too. The bird is also good flyer that can maneuver in sky.

As guest its name the bird comes from the Bern, Switzerland. The bird comes from the city and the canton of Bern. Though it comes from Swiss, but it is not similar to other Swiss pigeon because the body of the halfback is bigger than other Swiss pigeon. The origin of the bird IS Turkish. Turkish Ottoman that region was not far from the East because The Turkish region included the Balkan region.

The Halfback head is round and it is different to most Swiss Pigeon. They have orange eye that is surrounded by red eye cere. The beak is big and it is black and pale in color.

The Berne is a good flyer but the hobbyist keeps it as show bird. The bird has beautiful plumage color. Only two variation color that is admitted; either red-white or black-white.The head color is solid black with some little white spots.

This species is endangered and it is not famous like other fancy pigeon.   

Aachen Lacquer Shield Owl Pigeon: The Exhibit Bird From Aachen

The bird is also the rock pigeon descent or Columba livia. The bird comes from Aachen, German.  Since Aachen not far from Dutch, the bird may be related to Dutch Turbit. Either Aachen or Dutch has plain headed.

Actually, the bird is a flying pigeon but they turn as the exhibit bird or show bird. The bird performance is similar to rock pigeon especially its size. The bird has small crested that is actually a small frill neck. The foot color is read without feather or clean legged. 

They have short beak that similar to quail. Upper the beak, there is a small wattle that color is pink.  The beak reminds me to Tumbler pigeon that can fly acrobat in the sky.

The color pattern is like magpie. The plumage color is all white except its wing shield. The variation of wing shield color is   black, yellow, and red. There is no duns color. Perhaps the breeder does not like the duns variation. The size is medium or around 330 gram that as height as Columba livia or rock pigeon.

The bird is very rare in United States. Perhaps the bird has no special characters that attract the hobbyist. The bird has just beautiful plumage only. I do not know whether the bird is also has beautiful sound.

German Beauty Homer

German Beauty Homer is one of the fancy pigeon.  The bird looks like English Carrier or other pigeon runner. The German also has longer and slender body. It has longer neck and longer feet too. The German is a selective breeding of rock pigeon.

The bill of pigeon is unique. The bill is bigger than common pigeon. I think the bird bill likes flamingo bill that curve. Surely, the bird eats the seed like other pigeon. The feet color is red without feather. The hoer color is brown bar, blue bar, white and others.

The cropper pigeon

Cropper pigeon is a famous fancy pigeon that is got by selective breeding. It is a rock pigeon descendant too like other pigeon.

The bird is unique and different to other fancy pigeon or running pigeon. The bird has weird looks due its body shape. The body is slimmer than running or utility pigeon. He bird has long shank and thigh. Its red feet have no feather. 

There are some cropper variations color such as white, blue bar, brown bar, brown, black, black white and others. The neck is longer than other pigeon.

The crop can inflate. Sometimes the male can inflate its crop to seduce the female. Sometimes the crop hide its bill.

To raise this fancy pigeon, you have to prepare a pigeon cage. You can also raise the birds at your backyard or garden.

Lahore Pigeon : Beautiful Pigeon From Lahore

As guess its name, this beautiful bird comes from Lahore Pakistan. Some writer said that he bird comes from Sharja.
The bird has unique color pattern. The upper body ( including head, back and wing) is dark in color but the lower body (neck, belly, tail, leg) is white in color. There are some various color such as black, red, brown, silver, blue barred, stencil, lavender and else.
The bird is easy to raise and it is good for beginner. People raise his bird as ornamental bird however some farmer also raise the bird for is meat. The bird is large enough.

What is Homing Pigeon?

Pigeon has ability to carry messages or letters from a certain area. Pigeons can carry a letter only to one direction only, and not vice versa. Pigeons will carry a letter from an area to its nest, but it could not deliver a letter from the nest to another place.

Pigeons can remember way back to the hive. It has a natural navigation in the brain and knows the magnetic field as a travel guide.

Homing pigeon is used type of a much larger rock pigeon and have a big nose above the beak. Pigeon has the ability to fly far.

World War I, both Alliance and Axis forces used pigeons to send messages and secret messages to their parent post. Thanks to their pigeons get relief supplies or troops. At that time, radio technology has not advanced. Sometimes enemies can also hear a secret conversation. Pigeon will not be intercepted. Typically for a single message, the army would send some pigeons for sure the message will arrive. Though adept pigeon flying home, there are only one or two pigeons that failed to return. It could be birds of prey such as hawks and kestrel bird snatched it. Enemies also shot pigeon to read for news in a capsule that pigeons brought.

In our country, the police force still has homing pigeon. The animal unit police care pigeon beside horse and dogs. The Swiss army is still using a carrier pigeon.

Now the pigeon post was not used again to send the letter. Now is there a twitter can convey a message within a few seconds. It is no longer efficient to send a message via homing pigeon.

Now, Homing pigeon function as exhibition bird only. They are often trained pigeons on a regular basis. Pigeons released in significant amounts by a large container trucks brought. Before release, the owner fired a pistol ray pigeons to scare hawks and other predators.

Sometimes it also can be entered the exhibition by carrier pigeon enthusiasts clubs. Each pigeon will be given a rubber band that recorded the long journey pigeons. When the pigeon arrived, the owner will put a rubber band into the machine reader. The first pigeon that arrive to the home is the winner.

How to make pigeon cage

People have been care pigeon for thousands years. They also provide the cage for the bird. In Egypt, the pigeon owner build a pigeon tower that can accommodate hundreds pigeon inside. The tower is 10 meters in length. There are some doors at the top of tower. The bird can enter through those doors.

The outside tower is very smooth so snake and rat cannot enter to the tower. Egypt people use clay as tower ingredient. We can also use cement and sand to build a pigeon tower. Inside the tower, there are so many bulges so the pigeon can climb the tower. The owner also provides some nest for the bird. The pigeon also can nest inside the tower. They build nest from wood branch and its feather.

To raise the pigeon, you need build cage. This bird must have the cage for sleeping or lay the eggs. The pigeon can move to other place if they have no cage.

Creating a home pigeon is not difficult. I used small wood box for pigeon cage. I make a door in the front of box. Below the door I add the wood as the perch.

I put the box at the roof of my house. They can play at my roof. I also put the box inside the former chicken pen to protect it from rat, cat, and raccoon. Some people arrange some box for the pigeon. This cage is similar to flat. In my country, some poor people refuse to live at flat because it similar to pigeon house.

Some hobbyist also build pigeon hotel that has so many room. They place the pigeon to their backyard. The hotel uses a high wood to prevent the bird from rat or cat. Raise bird at backyard may disturb your neighbors. The bird often perches at anywhere. They may make your neighbor's house dirty.

Therefore, you can raise the bird at the pen. There are some steel pens or wire pen for the pigeon. The pen is durable due its material. I have used a steel pen for dozen years. The pen has beautiful roof that can protect the bird from sun and rain. Some pen also has no roof so this pen cannot place at your backyard. You are better to place it at terrace.

In my country, people prefer use wood or bamboo pen due it is cheaper. The bamboo cage is round in shape.

Fantail pigeon: The most famous fancy pigeon in the world

 The fan-shaped tail at the back of the bird, makes this bird different with other fancy pigeon or pigeon. It has 40 sheet tail feather; while, the other pigeon just has dozen tail feather. In my opinion this bird has similar shape tail with chicken hen.

I have ever fan the rock pigeon. I thought the tail will grows like the fantail. I was wrong. We cannot make rock pigeon tail like the fantail pigeon due it has fewer tail feather.

The head is round and the beak is long and curve at the edge. The color of beak is pink for white fantail pigeon and black for blue pigeon. There is small nose upper the beak. The feather is thick that covers from head to the feet while the toes has no feather. As common pigeon, it has red blood feet.

The feather color of fantail is white. The fantail also appears in blue, saddle, brown, black, black-white, and others.

This bird origin is India. The bird was found in 16 centuries. The fantail is a genetic mutation of the rock pigeon. British people brought the bird to their homeland at 1889. India was the British colony at that time.

British has developed the fantail pigeon at their land that is called British fantail. United States also developed the fantail that produce American Fantail pigeon. Thailand also has the fantail that is called Thai fantail pigeon.

Fantail is very docile pigeon. We can raise it as the fancy pigeon only due its unique tail and beautiful feather. The bird has no ability to fly high or fast like racing pigeon.

We can raise the bird at the backyard or loft. Build a pigeon house for some fantail couple. They will breed on your pigeon house. Provide the feeder or waterer at your backyard. Do not forget to provide a water basin for bathing. This bird like bath to bath.

If you have small backyard, you have better to provide pigeon loft for a couple only. Provide small feeder or waterer inside the loft. There are various loft from various material such as stainless steel, wood, and bamboo. A couple bird must need a nest box that you can place at the corner of the loft.

Fantail has various diet such as seed, grain, fruit, and vegetable. Some people said they like lettuce. Perhaps I will feed them with lettuce someday.

What is auto sexing bird

Can you sexing little chicken or chick? I am sure you can do that. Even an animal husbandry student will be difficult to sexing the chick. Only the expert can do that. They hold the chicken and open the cloaca. They know whether the chicken male or female by seeing the cloaca. It is not an easy jobs. Some breeder dare to pay high for the experts.
Sometimes sexing the chicken waste the company times. That is why they produce auto sexing breed. The breeder company cross the chicken with other chicken that bear different color chicken. We can recognize the male chicken or female chicken with the color.
