As the broad chicken, a broiler is a good meat chicken. it weighs 2 kilogram in 40 days. some broiler can beyond the weighs in 40 days. in my country, the farmer just raises for 30 days to produce less two-kilogram broiler meat. The people do not like big chicken. they like smaller chicken. On the other hand, the farmers must be pleasure because, they do not have to raise for next ten days. Raising for next ten days need more chicken feed, man power, electricity, and other costs.

The taste of broiler meet is not delicious as ayam kampung. The price is juts one third of Ayam kampung. People believe because the fast growing the meat is not delicious. However, this chicken meat has helped people.

Broiler is a descent of various chicken breed. A famous of the broiler parent is broad breast Cornish chicken. Not surprisingly, the broiler gets high breast from the Cornish.

The cornish is dedicated for meat production. its is derived from some game chicken that has upward posture. While some chicken also participates in broiler chicken such as Rhode Island Red and Plymouth Rock.

in my country, this chicken is risen for pet. Some chicken owner raises the broiler until two years. the two yeas chicken must be bigger than common broiler at the time. the broiler reaches the maximum weigh. Sometimes the broiler are used the parent of the chicken. Some experts cross the chicken with Ayam kampung to improve the meat production. The cross must be heavier than the ayam kampung.

The expert also selects some crosses. They just select the best performance for the ayam kampung. Some crosses is fast growing and some is resisted to some diseases. The owner often crosses the male broiler to ayam kampung because it the broiler female cannot hatch the egg. Most owner just traditional farmer who do not have incubator. It is not simple cross the broiler hen.

I thought bald chicken the chicken whose has no feather in head or neck. I was wrong. The bald chicken is the chicken whose has no feather. A year ago, Israeli scientist produces the weird chicken that has no plumage (BBC, 2012). Some people think that the chicken must be sick. The red or yellow skin covers the chicken flesh. The bald also has single wide comb like other broiler chicken.

The researcher told the naked chicken is not suitable for cool climate place; however, it is suitable in hot climate area such as Israel, according to researcher from Hebrew University. It is not a genetically breed of chicken but it is a selective breed of broiler chicken for 50 years. The researcher had selected the featherless. The chicken fast growers and the quality meat are better. In my opinion, the chicken does not need to convert the food into the feather but they convert the food into meat and bone.
It is good for people who do not like pluck the chicken. I often pluck the chicken manually and it needs one hour to pluck a chicken. The feather can pollute and it also stinky. Some people may use the feather for handicraft but most of chicken feather are dumped.
The Animal welfare group protests to the scientist because the featherless make the chicken suffered. Chicken need the feather to protect them from sun and parasites.

How to raise chicken with Fish

In my country, some farmer raises broiler chicken above the fish pond. The fish will get from chicken feces and also the chicken food that fall to the pond.
With this kind farm, the farmer gets benefit from chicken and fish. From limited land, they can raise two kinds animal that produce fish, chicken meat, and eggs. The farmer also raises layer chicken or landrace layer chicken that produces less eggs.
The fish the suitable for the pond is food fish such as carper, catfish, gourami, pacu, cichlids, and other. The best fish for this farm is catfish because it can stand with bad water. The fish is tolerance with high nitrate water that is caused by the feces. Catfish is also glutton fish that can eat anything. The farmer often feed the dead chicken. Some chicken died due to disease. The farmer burns the chicken and feed them. The catfish will attack it.
Some shrimp farmer also builds chicken coops above the pond. The farmer raises Vanamee shrimp that grows fast. They raise broiler chicken at the coops. In my country, they just raise broiler for 30 to 40 days only.
It is impossible to cover all ponds with the coops. The farmer should leave some spaces for the pond. The pond needs sun light too so the plankton can grow. Plankton is one of the fish foods.
The farmer also should limit the chicken. If the chicken produces more feces that fish can eat. It will harm to the fish.
The chicken needs strong pillar. The farmer usually uses stone or concrete for it. Some farmers prefer bamboo as the pillar that can stand up to five years. The farmers stab the bamboo to the pond bottom. The bamboo should be strong because they have to support the heavy chicken coops.
This farm may not cheap but it is cheaper than buying or renting a land.

How to heat the cage with coal

In my country, the electricity does not reach the village. That is why it is difficult to heat the broiler cage or chicken cage. They prefer to use coal or wood to heat the chicken especially small chicken. It keeps the cage warm.

They make a zinc tube that is one meter height. There is some porous or holes in the side of tube. Surely, they cover the tube with the fence so the chick cannot touch the tube that could kill the chick.


However this why is not health. The smoke that is result from coal burn could harm to people and chicken. For the long term, the smoke can cause cancer and other diseases. The owner should provide good ventilation too so the smoke will not poison the chicken.

Some farm also provide coal heater to the coops. There are some company provide big coal heater.

Marek's Disease or Paralaysis Disease, Kill Broiller fast

Marek's disease is the most dangerous disease for broiler farmer. This disease infects the chicken under 16 week’s age. Until now, there has yet no medicine for this disease. This medicine spread from saliva or respiratory system. The disease is easy to spread at a cage. It could kill all chicken in cage.

This disease caused by a herpes virus. It attacks the chicken nerve system.

The chicken that is infected by the virus will suffer paralysis. The chicken may die soon because they cannot reach the food and water. Some chicken that get acute Marek’s may not shown paralysis sign.

To prevent your chicken from Marek’s disease, you should clean the cage periodically. Remove the Marek's suspected chicken and you should eliminate it.

There are some signs that you can detect, such as:

1. Vision impairment
2. Loss of weight
3. Grey iris or irregular pupil
4. Paralysis of legs, weight, and neck
5. Skin around feather follicles raised and roughened.

They likes small broiler which weighs only 1.3 to 1.6 kilogram. The farmer also like to harvest early because they will get benefit fast. Beside produce carcass, the broiler farm also produces manure and feather.

How to raise broiler chicken?

To provide chicken meat, you can raise some chicken in your backyard. The broiler is the best choice for you. It can grow in eight weeks. The weight in eight week or two month could reach 2.5 kilos. In my country, the farmer just raise the chicken for 40 days which weight is 1.5 kg to 1.75 kg. In my country, people prefer young small chicken than the bigger chicken.

To produce the broiler, you can do like this:

1. Provide the brooder cage for the chick. Do not forget to facilitate it with light that is very important to keep the chick warm. Provide also the coop for the big broiler. When the chick grows bigger, you can remove to the pen.Read also "How to Care Baby Chicken"

2. Feed them with starter food up to two weeks. After two weeks, you can feed them with grower up to harvest.

3. Put also the waterer. You can mix vitamin and mineral into water.

4. Vaccine the chicken to protect form diseases.

5. Clean the cage periodically. Use disinfectant if necessary.

6. After 60 days, you can harvest to the chicken. You can harvest early, if you want small chicken. In my country, we can sell the chicken to wholesale or market or sell directly to other people. 

Notice:
Broiler farm is stinky. Therefore, you should put the cage far from your neighbor or your neighbor will complain. If you raise 3-5 chicken, it is not a big problem.
