Modern game fowl the unusual game fowl from Britain

When you see this chicken you might be surprised because it looks more like a bird such as heron and crame rather than a chicken. It has long legs, similiar to those of a heron or crane, which has long feet. The body is also slim. I wonder the bird can fly for far but the weight is heavy enough. The rosters can reach 3,2 - 4,1 kilogram in weight; while the hen weigh 2,25 – 3,2 kilogram.

The chicken is completely for show only though the bird has heavy body. The egg is so poor so people do not raise the fowl as egg layer.  According to the competition, the good modern should have iron-flat body shape, a relatively short back, fine tail, hard feathering, and a very upright carriage.

You were never guess that the modern game was breed as fighting roster. Since the british government forbad the cockfighting, Since the British goverment banned the cookfighting, the modern fanciers have kept as ornamental chicken. 

The color of modern is red black, birchen, brown red, duckwing and pyle. There are two variation of the modern: one the red eye with dark feet and others is the dark eye with dark feet. Like the game fowl, the bird has red to mulberry comb, wattles, skin. The shape of comb is single with white earlobe. 

The bird is also an ancestor of Serama Chicken beside silkie and Japanese Bantam. The Serama traits it's  broad chest from the Modern. 

I wonder some Serama traits  the high shank from the Modern. It might be a nice variant of Serama. 

What is benefit raise the pit cock?

As an animal lover, I do not want to use the roosters for cock pit because it is against humanity. The rooster suffered after the fighting. Some roster died after the fighting. That is why some country forbids the cock fighting. In my country, the cock fighting is also forbidden but some chicken owners do it at the hidden place. They do not want police caught them.    

I have also raised some pit cock but I have never used it as cock pit. I use the big cock pit as the male that can fertilize some female. The descendent of cocks fight is bigger than the common chicken. The cock pit usually has broad breast. The breeder in my country also crosses the chicken with various landarace chickens.

The descendent may big as the pit cock but it is also aggressive. To reduce the aggressiveness, we raise the chicken at the free range.

In United States and United Kingdom, people do not raise the game chicken as the cock fight but as show bird. The feather of the chicken is very beautiful.

Old English game bantam

This bantam is domesticated in English and developed from English game that is a pit roosters.

According to Wikepedia, this is the smallest bantam in the world, weighing 650 gram.  Actually, there is the smallest bantam in the world, weighing less than 500 grams. The bantam is Serama Bantam from Malaysia. This is a hybrid bantam.

The chicken have so many color variations such as partridge, silver, gray, barred, Columbia, white, buff, black, duckwing, cuckoo, and others. Some Old English has frizzled feather.

Like other bantams, this chicken has short feet relative to its body. The bantam has single wide comb, double wattles, and white earlobes. Some Old English has rose comb that is uncommon in bantam variety.

This chicken is very tame like mostly bantam. In my opinion, English Old game fowl is similar to Dutch Bantam. Perhaps, it is a descent of Red Jungle Fowl.

Orloff chicken : Chicken From Russia

Orloff chicken is a Russian chicken that first appeared in Persian or Iran. This chicken is also called Russian Orloff or Simple Russian. This chicken was exported to British in 1920. This is a medium chicken type which weighs 8 pounds (3.6 kg) and hen weighs 6 pounds (3.6 kg). This chicken is suitable for meat production and ornamental bird. This bird has beautiful color such as black, cuckoo, spangled, mahogany, white, and red tail black.

This chicken looks like game bird. In 1925, German has succeeded to breed bantam version of this chicken. The head is small relative to its body. It has small walnut comb, small earlobes, and minicules wattles. This bird is good for pet due to its calm.

How to raise peacock

Peacock is a beautiful green bird. This is a famous pet bird too. Some people are successful to raise this bird at their backyard. They raise the bird as a game bird. Some farmer also sells the beautiful feather.

To raise this bird, you can do like this:

1. Prepare a comfort flock for this bird. Provide large enough coop for this bird. The bird also needs space to roam.

2. Do not forget to put waterer and federer inside the coop and flock.

3. Feed the bird with game bird pellet or other poultry feed. You can also give them cracked corn and meat. Like other fowl, peacock also like green and chopped vegetables.

4. Clean the flock periodically.

Before raise this bird, you should consider:

1. The area should be large. A peacock needs larger spaces than a peahen due to its long tail. A narrow space can damage the long beautiful tail.

2. The peacock fowl should be far from noisy. This bird is anxious and is easy to stress.
