A hen lays egg twice in a day

 

Can a hen lay two eggs in a day? The answer is yes it can. Could a hen lay two eggs every day? The answer is it could not. Rarely, a hen lay egg twice in a day. It lay egg in the morning an in the afternoon. The second egg usually is “unperfect” egg. The shell’s egg is rotten and it could not be hatched. It could not be sold. No one buy the egg. Because the shell of the egg is to smooth, the shell cannot protect the egg from bacteria and pathogen. I am doubt to consume the egg. However, some chicken owner usually separates the egg directly from the clutch. They may fry it immediately.

Today the most productive is Austrolop which can lay 330 egg in year. Other  chicken like ISA brown lays 300 egg in a year. The Italian white leghorn also produce 300 egg a year.  I am very sure it is for two years only. After two years, the owner sells the old layer chicken. I wonder it must be tired for the layer hen produce 330 egg in years, the hen just “rest” 30 day in a year. Without sufficient nutrient, the hen must be suffered. Laying some egg, need high calcium nutrient and also high protein nutrient.

The hen must need rest too. In my opinion the 250 eggs in a year is an ideal. The hen gets enough rest from laying eggs. The quality of the egg is good too. The chicken gets 115 for rest. As human we also consider the rest for the chicken as the animal welfare. When we treat them well, they will give the best egg to us. The chicken is not a machine that can produce what you want. The chicken is also a living that we should teat them well.

 

White earlobe’s chicken lays white eggs

My father said that the chicken that has white earlobes lays white egg shell. I thought it was true because some white earlobe’s chicken lays white eggs. For example, the famous chicken layer hen Leghorn which has white earlobes lays white shell eggs.

I also read that some white earlobes chicken lays white eggs such as houdan, campine, and else. I thought that my father was right. Then, I search some article chicken to make sure. I remember that the red Jungle fowl (Gallus Gallus) does not lay white eggs but brown. The red jungle fowl also has white earlobs.

The earlobes color of the chicken is not same to the egg shelled, meaning it is not a sign of the egg shell. The chicken that lays brown eggs has no brown earlobes. The Ameraucana that lays green or blue shelled egg also has no blue or green earlobes.

In my country people do not like white egg shell. They are prefer to brown color than the whte. That is why chicken farmer in my country do not raise white leghorn. They raise Hissex or Rhode Island as the layer hen.

How to make mini incubator

My brother raises Bangkok chicken at backyard. He has two hens that was laying some eggs. Each hen lays 13 eggs in a clutch. A hen hatch 13 eggs but it eat three eggs. I think the chicken know that it is impossible to hatch more than 10 eggs. Other chicken does not go broody, it let the eggs. It is unusual for Bangkok chicken. Most Bangkok Chicken goes broody.
I have an idea to create a mini incubator chicken to hatch the thirteenth eggs. In my country, we are difficult to buy mini incubator because there is no pet shop that sell mini incubator.
Before make incubator you should provide wood, lamp, rack, water tray, thermometer and other. You also need tools like saw, hammer, burdizzo, and other tools.
Before creating the incubator, you are better to draw the design.

Here are the steps of making mini incubator:

1. Create a wooden box 60x60x60 cm. Create the frame of the box first and The front side is glass, so you can see the progress of hatching. Nail to cover the frame with triplex or wood. Notice: some wood contain chemist that is very dangerous to embryo. The poison often fails the egg hatch.
2. Put the tray at the middle box. You can make tray with fence or you can use the wire try. Do not use plastic tray because it will not good for the eggs.  
3. You can put water tray below the rack. This water is important for keeping humidity.
4. Sticky the thermometer inside the box so you can watch the thermometer degree.
5. Install the lamp at the top box. Use 40 watt lamp. Check the temperature and keep the temperature not more than 40 degrees Celsius or the eggs will be burned or well done.

How to operate the machine

After you finished the hatch machine, you can try hatching the chicken eggs.
1. Turn on the light. Be sure that the temperature should be 101 degrees Fahrenheit
2. Fill the water try with pure water.
3. Put the eggs on rack. Be sure there is a space between the eggs.
4. Close the machine door
5. Scroll the eggs three times a day
6. After 21 days, the eggs will be hatched. Let the chick for one days and you can remove the chicken to the brooder cops.

Chicken has been domesticated for more than ten of thousand years. Our ancestors raise them in the cage, or the free range. They feed them with cereal, seed, grain, and vegetable. In human hand, the meat production and egg production have been increasing. Some chicken hen can lay up to 300 eggs in a year; while, jungle fowl can lay only 50 eggs in a year. The domesticated chicken weighs up to 12 pounds. The scientists also have developed some chicken breed from various chicken breed in order to get the best breed which can lay much eggs and grow fast.

The ancestor of domesticated chicken is red jungle fowl. Now, the chicken can be found in India, Malaysia, Burma, Thailand, and Indonesia. The rooster is red partridge in color and the hen is dark brown in color. It has single comb, double witted and red earlobes. The chicken weighs only 3 to 4 pounds.

Chicken eggs weigh around 50 g. It is a delicious and full nutrient food. There are various shield color, such as, brown, white, blue and green. Most hens lay brown eggs.

Hatch eggs

The hen can hatch dozen eggs. Not all can hatch the eggs. Some breeds do not want to hatch eggs, such as, Sebright bantam, Buff Catalans and others.

Only hen hatch and raise the chick. The rooster will leave the hen alone. The hen hatches the eggs for 21 days or three weeks. The hen raises the chick for two months.

Chicken size

Chicken size is various, ranging less than half kilos to six kilos. The biggest chicken is Jersey giant which weighs 13 lbs. The smallest chicken is Serama Bantam. Serama is a Malaysian Bantam which weighs less than a half kilogram. Malaysian bantam is an ornamental bird due to its size.

Chicken speed

It can run 9 miles per hour. You cannot catch it if they run fast.

Chicken can fly like a bird.

The jungle chicken can fly for short range only. Some domesticated chicken can fly too, for instance, Sebright bantam. The longest distance flown by chicken is 301.5 feet.


Spurs

Most Male chicken has spurs. This is the weapon of the chicken. We can find few hens with spurs too. Black Sumatra chicken has more than one spurs at each legs. This is a pit rooster.

How to save chicken eggs for hatching

Before a chicken hatch the eggs, they should lay all the eggs first. A hen can lays 15 eggs in a period. I always keep the egg before the chicken lay egg. It is too risky to let the chicken at the nest. The hen may break the eggs or other chicken may break the eggs. Therefore, you need to save the eggs before hatching it.

You can do like this:

1. Collect the eggs everyday in morning early. You can feed them the chicken so the hen can leave the nest. Take the egg when the hen eats the feed.

2. Clean the eggs with soft cloth gently. Do not break the egg shield. 

3. Save the eggs at dry and safe place. You can use egg carton to save the eggs.

Notice: You can save the eggs for 7 days. Do not save the eggs for more than seven days because the egg will be not hatched.

How to hatch chicken eggs in incubator

Some hen has no ability to hatch their own eggs such Sebright Bantam or Polish. Therefore, you can hatch the eggs with incubator. This tool can hatch many eggs.
Most farm use this tool because it is very efficient. The hen doe not need to hatch and broody the chick. The hen can lay again and produce more eggs.

If you want use machine for hatching chicken eggs, you can do like this.

1. Provide the incubator. There are two kids of incubator machine such as still-air incubator and forced-air incubator. Forced-air incubator can hatch many eggs; on the other hen, the still-air just hatch fewer eggs. Most chicken farm use forced air incubator. Be sure the incubator is clean. You can clean the incubator after it has been used.
2. Turn on the incubator for 24 hours. You can check the temperature and the humidity. Set the temperature 102 degree Fahrenheit if you use still-air incubator. For forced-air incubator, set the temperature 100 degree Fahrenheit.
3. Put the eggs in incubator. Be sure you put fertile eggs in the incubator. It is better to put mid size eggs. You can get the eggs at poultry farming. Alternatively, you can buy it through Amazon. There are some
4. Turn about a half the eggs. You can do this for four or six times a day. Turning the eggs is important so all of chicken eggs can get the heat. You can sign the egg shields with pencil so you will not forget to turn the eggs. Some modern incubator can turn the eggs especially the huge incubator. If the hen hatches the egg, they often turn the eggs warm.
5. Set the humidity to 45%-55%. Increase when the chicken starts to hatch or nearly hatch. The humidity is important for the chicken. The lower or higher humidity can cause the eggs fail to hatch.
6. When the egg shield broken, you should wait the chicken to hatch. Do not assist them by opening the shield.
7. Let the chicken stay one day in incubator. After 24 hours, you can remove the chicks to brooder cage.
